The Shiba Inu is a small, spirited breed with a bold personality and a whole lot of charm. Originally from Japan, Shibas were bred for hunting and are known today for their fox-like looks, independent nature, and loyal companionship.​

• Size: Small (34-42cm tall, 7.5-10.5kg)

• Lifespan: 12–16 years

• Coat: Double-coated (soft undercoat, stiff outer coat), seasonal shedding

• Colors: Red, sesame, black & tan, or cream

• Temperament: Alert, confident, clean, and loyal—but often independent

Personality & Behavior:

Shibas are smart, curious, and often act like they’re in charge. They’re known for being independent thinkers—sometimes a little stubborn—but they bond closely with their family. Early socialization and training are key to helping your Shiba become a well-mannered companion.

They’re naturally clean (often compared to cats!), don’t bark much, and can be a little reserved with strangers—but very affectionate with those they love.

Exercise & Activity:

Shibas are active and agile dogs. Daily walks, playtime, and mental stimulation are important to keep them happy and healthy. A secure yard is a must—Shibas are known escape artists and love to explore!

Grooming Needs:

They’re fairly low-maintenance but do shed heavily a couple of times a year (a good brushing during shedding seasons helps!). Regular brushing and basic care—like nail trimming and ear cleaning—will keep them looking and feeling their best.
